Meet Kelly
Hi, I’m Kelly Berg, the owner and face behind The Herndon Woodshed!
If you had told me three years ago that I would own my own business, much less be working with a table saw weekly, I would have laughed at you, but that’s been the story of my life so far!
In 2020, I started woodworking as a hobby when my partner, Eddie, decided that he wanted to make a live-edge coffee table. Eager to stay busy and learn something new, and in need of an end-table myself, I convinced him to give me the leftover wood he had. Together, we watched YouTube videos and figured out the process of how to make our vision a reality.
What started as a one-time project led me to start making other pieces and I started selling as The Herndon Woodshed in August of 2021!
While I make mostly charcuterie boards - personally, I use them for just about everything OTHER than charcuterie! I use them to display plants, large coasters on my coffee table/nightstand, candle holders, or small tables – they have so many uses! I also upcycle any scraps to make keychains and magnets, and source designs to make earrings that match the aesthetic of my brand. I hope to include one-of-a-kind handmade jewelry items to the shop soon!
A Few Fun Facts!
When I’m not working at The Herndon Woodshed, I am a mom to a ten year old daughter and a fifteen year old wolfhound/greyhound mix.
I’m also a S2C Practitioner at Growing Kids Therapy Center in Herndon, Virginia, as well as a member of the Leadership Cadre at the International Association for Spelling as Communication.
Downtown Herndon is home, and I can’t imagine a better place to run a business or raise a family!
Community Matters
One of my goals when starting The Herndon Woodshed was to be able to donate boards to non-profit associations for silent auctions and to give back to my beloved Herndon community.
Part of my business model is the more I sell, the more I can give away — so please contact me if I can help you raise money for a good cause!
So far, I have donated boards to:
The International Association for Spelling as Communication, Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, Foster the Family DC, and the Griffin Promise Autism Clinic. In addition, I was a co-sponsor for a production at NextStop Theatre Company in Herndon Virginia, as well as a Bronze Sponsor for the 2023 season of Herndon’s Friday Night Live.
